Thank god for holidays. I am overworked and so much in need for a few days off. I couldn’t be happier about July 4th. After the last weeks ranting about the government I am going to focus a bit more on photography.
With the holidays ahead of us, how about a quick review of some Fireworks shooting tutorials:
Photographing Fireworks – reviews the technique to photograph fireworks. I like the special touch of using Google Earth to find the best location for setting up the shots.
How to Photograph Fireworks Displays – Very long list of excellent tips. I don’t agree on the aperture though, as I wouldn’t go above 8 (lens sharpness and diffraction)
Photographing Fireworks2 – Excellent resource (the site uses too much advertisement for my taste though)
The bottom line:
There are many excellent resources out there and if you are like me, heading out to the July 4th celebrations with your camera, you should give one or all of these links a read. Maybe there is something you can improve and if not its always good to brush up on your skills.
Personally I feel that its not really that hard. Night photographs have a certain property of causing people to be bedazzled by the glitter and colors. Anyone with a tripod and a cable release should be able to get decent photographs. Surprisingly every year I see people with small cameras trying to shoot fireworks hand held, so there seems to be a certain need to review the basics.
Check out the tutorials and maybe you too will be able to get awesome photographs such as these:
